Vintage Card of the Day – N184 James O’Neil (sic)
The vintage card set designated N184 was released by W.S. Kimball & Co. and was named “Champions of Games and Sport“. There were four baseball players included in this set, O’Neill (spelled O’Neil on the card) being the most prominent one.
You’ll see from the image above that the bottom portion and background of the card have an almost pastel quality, while the picture of James (Tip) O’Neill is in a more vivid color. This is a rare card which, if found in good condition, would be sought after by most vintage collectors.
Over ten seasons spent with the Gothams, Browns, Pirates and Reds, O’Neill batted a hefty .334. He won the Triple Crown in 1887 and is a member of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
