Vintage Card of the Day, T3 Art Devlin

This T3 Turkey Red cabinet card features third baseman Art Devlin of the New York Giants. Devlin was a prolific base swiper, leading the National League in that category for the year 1905.

Vintage Card Term of the Day – Cabinet Card

A cabinet card is a card that was created during the mid-19th century and was used generally for the purpose of display in something like a curio cabinet. The cards generally measured 4.25 x 6.50 inches.

Some T3 Turkey Red cards, circa 1911, as seen below, are highly sought after cabinet cards.

Vintage Card Term of the Day – Blank Bank

A “blank back” card is simply a baseball card with, most likely, a picture or image of a particular baseball player on the front of the card, and no words or other printing on the back.

Walter “The Big Train” Johnson appears here on a vintage gold bordered T205, one of the most coveted cards for T205 collectors.
In excellent condition, expect to see this card auctioned for more than $2,000.

Johnson, who played his entire major league career with the Washington Senators between the years 1907 and 1927, was near the beginning of his Hall of Fame career at the time this tobacco card was released to the public (circa 1911).

A.C.C. stands for the American Card Catalog.  The American Card Catalog is a reference book put together by Jefferson Burdick which became the standard for our hobby in defining and labeling different baseball cards by make and year.
